Galveston Island is located just south of Houston Texas. Galveston has a rich and colorful history and offers its visitors everything in a resort destination. The island’s special events, attractions and festivals are enjoyable for both islanders and vacationers alike.
The restored Grand 1894 Opera House been designated the “Official Opera House of the State of Texas” by the 73rd legislature. It hosts a variety of exciting stars such as Lilly Tomlin, Tim Conway, Hal Holbrook and Bill Cosby just to name a few. Broadway touring productions, classical music with Galveston’s Symphony Orchestra and dance is also part of the Grand’s repertoire.
Galveston's Own Farmers Market
Founded in 2012, Galveston's Own Farmers Market is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization operating every Sunday morning on Galveston Island in coastal Texas. Our weekly outdoor market provides a direct connection to vendors creating and growing fresh whole foods, including farms, ranches, bakeries, cheese-makers and specialty-foods producers.
Island ETC. and Strand Street theaters offer the best in live theater entertainment. Its actors and performers both local and recruited dazzle audiences with their talent. Productions feature musicals, plays, film festivals and concerts and poetry readings from our homegrown poets.
Galveston Island offers a variety of shopping experiences for residents and tourists alike. The historic Strand offers several gift and clothing stores, souvenir shops, art galleries and antique shops.

Our island offers much in the way of museums and tours. Museums are open to the public and gives visitors a glimpse of Galveston’s historical and colorful past.
Galveston Island State Park
For the outdoor nature lover! This is a 2,000 acre state park that has such amenities as beach campsites, electricity, water hook-ups, barbeques and picnic tables and showers for families. The State Park offers fishing, hiking and biking trails or just relaxation on the beach.
Our Parks and Beaches
Galveston Island has something for everyone! Big Reef Nature Park allows birdwatchers and bird enthusiasts a view of our coastal birds living in their natural habitat. Big Reef also has a nature trail with pristine marshland and local vegetation for the nature lover.
Beaches and Bay
Whether you head east or west on the island, you are bound to find the “perfect spot” of beach just for you! Miles of sunny beach features swimming, fishing, surfing, sunbathing, wind surfing, horseback riding, bikini contests, outdoor pavilion, amusement park and volleyball tournaments. Bayside offers water skiing, fishing and boating, canoeing and kayaking. Whatever activities you choose, you’ll relax into the friendly, casual mentality here on the island. A temperate climate and laid-back attitudes are trademarks of this barrier reef island.
